We conduct hearing tests to diagnose hearing loss for any person who is worried about hearing level most time. With hearing loss diagnosed, hearing aids are fitted to improve hearing. We manufacture custom hearing protection for individuals at work or shooting range. Listening is a skill; however, with diminished hearing, that skill perish. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HEARING LOSS
When does hearing loss occur?
Hearing loss can occur at any time. Sudden loss of hearing is the most common hearing loss disorder that is experienced due to viral flu attacks or damage to the middle or inner ear structures. Hearing loss caused by a viral attack most associated with seasonal flu can heal once inflammation of the pharyngeal/throat is resolved by treatment with antibiotics. Sinus infection will cause scarring to the inner ear. Once resolved hearing is restored back to its original state. Hearing loss that occurred due to damage to the middle ear bones can be restored by surgery to replace or reposition the middle ear bones. Hearing loss occurring due to middle ear damage cannot be restored or reversed. Damage to the inner ear is mostly caused by ototoxic medication or degeneration due to age or long exposure to damaging noise to the inner ear.
Can excessive wax cause hearing loss? Is wax dirt?
Excessive wax only cause what is called temporary threshold shift due to impacted wax inside the ear canal. When impacted wax becomes dry and blocks the ear canal, hearing is reduced until the wax is softened and removed. This hearing loss resolves once excessive wax is removed. Wax is never dirt inside the ear canal, unless, wax is exposed to the outer ear. Ear wax is one way your ear protects itself from foreign bodies, dust, or water. Your ear is a self-cleaning organ. Without any intrusive measure to clean the ear, your ear is as good as new, as it continually cleans itself.
What treatments are available for hearing loss?
Hearing loss can be treated according to where the damage or disturbance occurred. When the hearing loss was caused by the middle ear obstruction or disturbance, it is treated according to its site of the lesion. When the damage or lack of development for hearing loss occurred in the inner ear, that is, the cochlear is damaged, treatment will involve cochlear implants. When damage or disturbance is from the middle ear or obstruction of sound/speech to reach and activate the eardrum; treatment will involve bone-conduction hearing aid/s. When the eardrum or middle ear is no longer that active for sound to reach the inner ear or produce low transmission of sound, then treatment will involve hearing aids. Hearing aids are designed to improve hearing loss as it improves all the frequencies that are said to be less active to produce enough sound for an individual to hear and respond at normal levels of conversation.
Is treatment for hearing loss worth it?
Definitely, hearing loss treatment is worth it as treating it alone will prevent the most related degenerative disorders from thriving old-age making it difficult to overcome. By treating hearing loss an individual will prevent other degenerative disorders to cause more disturbance than normal. Once a person loses hearing, they also face a lot of difficulties brought by hearing loss.
Who is affected the most or vulnerable to hearing loss?
Like most degenerative disorders it can attack at any time, anyone. As human as we grow we degenerate; that is, our body system continually loses its flexibility, functionality, strength, and acumen at handling tasks. As children grow up, our hearing is more sensitive and accurate. As we grow old, the same hearing degenerates to its weak levels. This hearing loss is referred to as a Temporary threshold shift that occurs at every listening experience. Over a number of years, hearing degenerates due to recreational noise. At times medication can affect your hearing (ototoxic), as much as there is more research to have medication that has fewer ototoxic side effects, however ototoxic hearing loss still affects people on treatment. Hearing loss can affect any person at any time of development.
What to do when you cannot hear well?
It is advisable to see hearing care professional who will quantify the experience as having been reduced or impaired hearing. A hearing care professional will do a diagnostic test that will quantify hearing loss and provide reason/s of what caused hearing loss. A test of hearing and speech will determine what needs to be done helping a patient/client take a decision on what needs to be done.
Is treatment for hearing loss expensive?
